James was one of the missionaries to Tahiti in the ship Duff, when she was taken by a French privateer; and was on that island when idolatry was renounced by the inhabitants, and Christianity embraced. He was one of the honoured agents in bringing about that great and important change. James arrived in the “Royal Admiral” - Sydney, New South Wales, 20 November 1800 and later returned to United Kingdom. Mary and James married -- -- 1820 - United Kingdom and arrived - Sydney, New South Wales on board the ship “Hope” on 23 October 1820. Mary died 18 March 1854, Sydney, New South Wales and was buried 20 March 1854 in the Old Burial Ground, Sydney, New South Wales. His funeral left the Bible and Tract Depository, King Street, Sydney, at 4pm he and was buried 6 November 1850 - Sydney, New South Wales, without issue.
