Florence was born on Tuesday, 6 September 1898 at “Maravi”, South Perth, Western Australia, the eldest child of Ernest Thompson and Minna Maude Thompson nee Jefferis. Florence died Wednesday, 20 September 1961 at Epping, New South Wales.
Florence was my grandmother, affectionately known to me and my siblings as Granny Warth. I am told she was named “Kylie” by the local aborigines, the meaning of the name, as close as can be expressed in English, is “she will return”. I do not know which aboriginal group gave her that name — Florence lived in many different places in Australia, her parents moving between Sydney and Perth, and her husband moving around New South Wales as an employee of the government railways.
