Rita was born on Saturday, 3 September 1910.

The following is extracted from the Sun, published Sunday, 19 May, 1935, under the heading, “WEDDINGS”:

FOUR MAIDS IN trained gowns of pink satin, with trails of pink and white hyacinths falling from their floral muffs, and two little maids in frilled frocks of white satin, trimmed with pink roses, attended Miss Rita Strugnell, elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Strugnell, of Rose Bay, at her marriage at St. James’s Church yesterday to Mr. Gerald McKittrick, of Randwick, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Thomas McKittrick, of Grafton. The bride’s gown of white satin and lace was fashioned on classical lines to form a long train at the back, over which fell her billowy veil of cut tulle, which was arranged from a coronet of silver lame and orange blossom. Her bouquet was of hyacinths and tuber roses. Little Joan Lewis and Joy Anderson were the trainbearers, and the bridesmaids were the Misses J. Strugnell, V. Skinner, M. Chard and G. Stone. Mr. R. S. Strugnell was best man and Messrs. C. Holmes and W. Anderson groomsmen. The reception was held at the Torii Cafe, where the bride’s mother, wearing a frock of Marina blue satin, received the guests.
