OBITUARY.
MR. MAYOR J. WILSHIRE.
There passed away at his late residence, Frederick street, on the 13th inst., one of Toowoomba’s oldest citizens, Mr. Mayor Joseph Wilshire, J.P., third son of the late Hon. James Robert Wilshire, M.L.C., of Sydney, New South Wales, at the ripe age of nearly 83 years. He was born in Sydney during the time his father occupied the mayoral chair. He was recognised as a man of sterling character, and endeared himself to many with whom he came in contact. During the early part of his life he managed several cattle and sheep stations in Queensland. On several occasions he acted in the capacity of town clerk of Toowoomba and also of clerk to the Drayton and Middle Ridge Shires. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, three sons, eight daughters, and 15 grandchildren. He resided in Toowoomba for 44 years.
