Bills—Thompson Wedding At Sandy Bay

WEARING a gown of heavy white romaine, Miss Susan Thompson, of Sandy Bay was a charming figure for her marriage on Saturday night at St. Stephen’s Church, Sandy Bay, to Nigel Carey Bills, of SA, a former member of the RAAF.

THE bride’s gown, which was lent by a Dutch friend, Mrs van Iterson, was fashioned with a high neckline and featured intricate shirring on the bodice with matching bands from the shoulders to waist, and a full sweeping skirt and train. Her long tuile veil was attached to a Juliet cap embroidered with pearls, and she carried a bouquet of regal lilies.

The bride is the youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs E. Harvie Thompson, Carinya, Fishers Ave., and the bride-groom is the fourth son of Mr and Mrs James Bills, Rose Park, Adelaide (SA). The bride was given away by her father, and the ceremony was performed by the Rev H. Shepherd.

The bridesmaids, Misses Margaret Scott, Sue Beresford, and Valerie Lord, wore frocks of heavy white romaine with full sweeping skirts gathered to a low pointed basque in front, draped bodices, and three quarter length sleeves, offset by plain Juliet caps.

Mr R. Bills was best man, and Messrs W. Armstrong and M. Eddy, fellow officers with the bridegroom, were groomsmen. The ushers were Messrs I. Robson and B. Bamford.

More than 100 guests were entertained at a reception at the home of the bride’s parents, Sandy Bay. The mother of the bride wore a black romaine frock with a hat of black tulle and flowers. A black outfit with a flowered hat was chosen by the mother of the bridegroom.

When she left the reception for the Tasmanian honeymoon, the bride was wearing a cream polka dotted muslin frock with a round neckline, side fastening bodice, and full skirt, under a burgundy coloured coat with a pleated back, and a black tam.
