Nancy was born on Monday, 5 March 1917 at Homebush in New South Wales, the third daughter of Harrie Matcham Pitt Badgery (born 7 April 1881 - died 10 April 1953 - Grafton Base Hospital, Grafton, New South Wales late of South Grafton, New South Wales) and Nina Morrow Strickland, (born -- --, 1878 - died 30 January 1953 - Grafton, New South Wales), his wife.

Nancy married Harold Aubrey Jones on Saturday, 15 September 1945 at Maryborough, Queensland. Together, Nancy and Harold had two children, Jennifer Margaret, born in 1950 and Robert, born in 1952.

Nancy served in the Royal Australian Air Force during the Second World War, at the RAAF Base in Maryborough, Queensland; enlisted 30th October 1941, discharged 10th August 1945.
