Darrell was the fourth son and fifth child of George Clifton Stanley Wormald and Lillian Harriett Joyce Wormald nee Fuller

Darrell served as private in the second thirty-second Australian infantry battalion. Darrell was killed at the age of 19 in action in the second world war on Friday, 26 November 1943 and is buried in the Finchhafen War Cemetery in Papua New Guinea, Grave No. H.A.2.
