A celebration of life

Iris was born on 30 November 1930 at Whiporie, New South Wales, youngest daughter of George and Lillian Wormald. She married Vic Jarrett on 23 December 1950.

Family was what Iris was about. Laughter, togetherness, sharing of meals, friends, community and people.

Iris was known by many names as she grew up: Grubby, Iris, Nan, Nanna, Mum ,Aunty Iris, Murtle , frog face, chook legs, are a few of the endearments that were regularly used.

As we look about this church today we see the beautiful flowers; Well, Iris would be pleased as she loved her garden, bringing to life the small snippets of green she had borrowed from the garden she had walked past, she could name all the flowers, even those you are wearing on your blouses and undies.

Cooking was another passion. Jams, pickles ,and relish and, preserves, If you ever visited no matter when, Iris always had home bake to offer, maybe you bought something from the church stalls held here at this church, likely it was made by Iris during her baking sprees.

One would have thought the eight children were enough. For many years Iris lived beside Rathgar children’s home and all who lived there had crawled through the hole in the fence and shared the licking of the bowls and the goodies as they came out of the oven. For many here you would have shared the support, the listening ear and the good advice and just being there for you when you needed her.

A person that was never scared of hard work she gave to all her children good work ethics so each and every one works or has worked in a management position. She has spent her last months supervising the work in our garden.

And one of her blessings were when all of chlildren were married to good people, just as she had been with Vic, people who she could love and call her own.

As you may have heard, Iris had tragedy in her life. But for those who know her you will know that is not what Iris was. It was her love of life, family and good friends.

I take this time to remind all the grandchildren that Nan wanted lots of great grandchildren and this was something that she was talking about just last week, she hasn’t given up on the hope that all of you have children of your own.

Family and friends Please Celebrate with Iris as she has gone to God to be with those who have left before her and she will be waiting for all of us to gather to her care once more.
