Caroline Hayes nee Tregerthen) was born Friday, 23 May 1823 at Bath, Somerset, United Kingdom and baptised 17 January 1841 at All Soul’s, Marylebone, Middlesex, United Kingdom, first daughter of Augustus Tregerthen and Caroline Tregerthen, nee Hewlett, his wife.

Caroline arrived in Sydney on Sunday, 8th April 1849 on board the “Midlothian”.

Caroline married James Hayes on Thursday, 15 September 1853 at the Church of England, Mudgee, New South Wales as his second wife. James Hayes was born Monday, 22 April 1822 at Wrotham, Kent, United Kingdom, and was baptised on Sunday, 18 May 1823 at Shipbourne, Kent, United Kingdom. James was the son of John Hayes and Mary Carter, his wife.

Together, they had nine children:– Emma, Henry Edward, John, Elizabeth, Thomas, William Augustus, Caroline Jane, Matilda and Robert George.

Caroline died on Thursday, 13 August 1903 at Douro Street, Mudgee, New South Wales and was buried on Saturdaym, 15 August 1903 in the Church of England Section, Mudgee Cemetery, Mudgee, New South Wales.

James died Saturday, 19 August 1911 at Douro Street, Mudgee, New South Wales and was buried on the same day in the Church of England Section, Mudgee Cemetery, Mudgee, New South Wales.
